10 ways to style your Blazer –
WARDROBE STAPLE must have!
When you wear a blazer, you’re the boss
Those of you who have attended one of my Workshops or follow me on social media, would know I’m a big fan of capsule wardrobes. To be honest, the term “capsule wardrobe” has become a household name and for a good reason! I’ve personally found a minimal wardrobe extremely helpful when it comes to getting ready in the morning.
Building your wardrobe around a few basic items that are good quality and trans-seasonal, will guarantee you always have something to wear. I am forever telling my clients to invest in good quality basics. If you are going to spend money on clothes, I recommend spending it on basics! You will appreciate having a higher quality basic tee rather than a $5 one from Kmart because you are going to be wearing and washing it endlessly and good quality staples will stand the test of time, and fake tan!
This blog topic is about my favourite wardrobe staple “THE BLAZER”, so I really do need to stop rambling on about “Wardrobe Essentials” and keep to task!
A tailored jacket or blazer is by far my supreme weakness. It’s structure, clean lines and power of illusion instantly makes any frazzled, overworked, stressed out, time poor, tired woman look immaculately put together, in the flick of a lapel.
If you don’t have a good quality, well fitted blazer occupying your wardrobe space, stop reading now and go out and buy one! Hang on, it’s actually not that simple! You would be surprised at how many factors can go into selecting the right jacket. It’s more complex than finding the perfect husband, but at least you can exchange or return it if you get home and decide it’s not the right one!
There is ample proof the traditional blazer can be spun every which way, so there’s really a shape, hue and style to suit everyone. We’ve seen Gucci reimagine the traditional preppy piece by giving it an eccentric twist, with sharp lapel piping and bright colours and floral embroidery. Chanel kept the tradition of greys and checks, while DKNY served up extreme proportions, boasting tiny waists, wide shoulders and extra-long sleeves. Hedi Slimane’s last collection for Saint Laurent saw the most dramatic shoulders since the series finale of Dynasty! For me, I’ll take one of each please!
Like it or not, 80’s inspired fashion is back! You know you’re dangerously close to being “too old” when you unpack the latest and greatest Longline Double Breasted Blazer from Witchery, try it on and say to your 23 year old Manager “oh dear, I look like Rick Astley” and she replies “who’s she?”.
Anyway ladies, here’s some blazer styling inspo for you. 10 lovely ways to style the humble blazer. You’re welcome!
